Diversity and Equality in the Faculty

Inclusive Faculty Culture

Together, we shape a diverse, respectful, and equitable learning and working culture at Faculty 6

Welcome to our webpage on Diversity and Gender Equality at Faculty 6!

As a vibrant learning community, we are actively committed to creating an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment – a place where the different perspectives, experiences, and potential of our students, staff, and teaching members are not only respected but also purposefully supported.

Discover six inspiring videos that offer authentic insights into our engagement: people from various backgrounds share their stories and show how they actively contribute to creating an environment where every voice is not only heard, but truly counts. A particular focus lies on promoting gender equality and supporting women in their studies, teaching, and research.

These personal stories and hands-on insights into our diversity initiatives provide a vivid picture of how we, as a faculty, work together to foster a more inclusive, respectful, and discrimination-sensitive community – today and in the future.

Insights into Diversity and Gender Equality

Diversity is an important topic, also at Faculty 6 and at the University of Stuttgart. But what does diversity actually mean?

Diversity means that every person is unique, and we all have differences. It is precisely these differences that we want to honour with this video project. Because despite all differences, everyone should have the same opportunities. Some people from our faculty will share their experiences with you, both in general and in a university context. Equal opportunities and inclusion are the basis of diversity and thus ensure a productive and effective working and study environment.

Diversity, as a woman in STEM

Unfortunately, as a woman in a STEM profession, you are still often not taken seriously or you

have to prove yourself first and prove yourself against sayings such as ‘You're only here because of the quota’. This is not always an easy path.

In this video, Prof. Dr Sabine Klinkner and Susann Pätschke talk about their personal

journey as women in a scientific profession.

Diversity, no matter who you love.

Your own sexual orientation and gender identity should not limit you from getting the same opportunities as others.

In this video, Myles talks about the topic of LGBTQ+ and his personal experiences.

Diversity, no matter where you come from.

It should never happen that you are discriminated against and treated differently because of your origin.

Unfortunately, this is still not always the case today.

In this video, Pravjyot talks about his personal experiences as a foreign student.

He talks about the hurdles he had to overcome and what helped him.

Diversity in all conditions

There is also a lot to consider when it comes to health, because even if you may be physically

or mentally restricted, you should still have all options open to you. The disadvantage compensation scheme is available to ensure that everyone can take exams fairly, regardless of their health, even when they are studying.

In this video, Michael talks about exactly this compensation for disadvantages and his personal experience with it.
