Engineering Tomorrow: From Spacecraft Guidance to Autonomy
Inaugural lecture by Mr Hon.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Winkler
In this inaugural lecture, Hon.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Winkler explores the fundamental questions that define our aspirations and actions: Who are we? Where do we want to go? And how do we get there? Drawing on his extensive professional experience in aerospace and his deep roots in research, Prof. Winkler will address real-world challenges in today's
spacecraft-building industry. His lecture will highlight the critical role of passion for physics, mathematics,
engineering, and beyond in pioneering the future – a dream shared by many students and professionals.
We have diverse opportunities to shape this future, ranging from cornerstone missions and the first practical applications of theoretical concepts to bridging the gap between research and industry to enhance efficiency, and developing future
autonomous spacecraft. Each of these avenues offers a unique chance to significantly impact and shape the trajectory of space engineering. Prof. Winkler will discuss practical pathways to achieving these goals, sharing insights, examples, and
anecdotes from his own hands-on, real-world experience. This lecture promises to inspire and guide the next generation of innovators as they strive to push the boundaries of what is possible.
